Making up our own games for P.E was great fun! Out group made up a game called "Obstacle Rounders". We planned out obstacles between all the bases such as going through tyres and and balancing on benches. It was really good fun creating it with friends and even more fun playing the games! Our game worked really well and people really enjoyed it although the batting team found it harder to get people out so the striking team always did better! The rules were abided by fairly and I think the rules really helped people get the most out of the games! The whole thing was very enjoyable and it felt good to know you and your friends made up the game that people were playing! :)

Competition :)
Sport competitions are when two teams contest against one another to get better at a sport. There doesn't always have to be a prize or reward involved, the most important thing about competition is to have fun and to improve your skills. The best way to gain enjoyment from a competition is to have friendly competitions where a prize isn't involved and everyone's just having fun. Although that's not to say that competition doesn't drive teams forward.
Last week my class took part in a tag rugby blitz, the whole idea of the blitz was to have fun. There wasn't really any competition involved, it was just for fun. No team was placed and no team won. Scores weren't kept on record or anything, each team was just told at the end of each match whether they won or not and I can't honestly say I remember how many games we won or didn't win.
Competition can be for both work and play, it depends on the individual involved and how seriously they take it. But our tag rugby blitz was definitely for enjoyment! :)

Tag Rugby! :) Part 4!
Yesterday we had our first full game of tag rugby! We played five-a-side and it was really good! I think we all understand the basic rules and are beginning to obey them properly. Playing the game properly and with the rules was definitely the most enjoyable way to play!
Our teacher told us yesterday that we'll be attending a blitz in Dublin against other girls' schools on Thursday 7th April. We're all looking forward to this, we can't wait to play against other teams and it will be a really good way for us to bond as a class! I think with just a little more training we will definitely be ready to compete.
After playing tag rugby for a few weeks now I find that it's not only a male's sport. Although we've been playing a less rough version of the game it's still great to see girl's playing a sport which has been deemed as a male sport for many years.
I'll update after our match to report on how it went! :)

Tag Rugby! :) Part 3!
So far we've had three tag rugby P.E classes with Simon from the IRFU! I definitely think my class and I have progressed very well. We learn the basic rules of tag rugby through fun exercises. From fun games to real challenges it really has been a great experience!
I.m not sure if I feel completely ready to play a full proper game next week, as I think we still need a bit of preparing! Hopefully after next weeks lesson we will be prepared to have a full game! Simon has been talking about playing a challenge match against one of the other schools. I think this is a great idea as it will motivate us all to take part to win it for Class Edel's! :D
Overall, rugby classes have been great and much more exciting than just every day P.E class! :)

Tag Rugby! :) Part 2
In our P.E class yesterday Simon from the IRFU took our class. We learned how to do some of the important stretches and learned some of the basic rules of tag rugby. We did linges, squats and many more.
I really enjoyed our class and am really glad that best efforts are being made to encourage girls to play rugby! It's important that rugby isn't just known as a game for guys and that girls can get involved too! In our local rugby club, a summer course for tag rugby is available and after yesterday's P.E class I'm seriously considering doing the summer course in the rugby club. I have much more interest in rugby now! :)

Tag Rugby! :)
Tag Rugby is a great and fun way to keep fit! There are seven players on each team. Twelve is the maximum, including substitutes. On a mixed team you must have at least three girls. If a male scores a try it's worth one point and if a female scores a try it's worth three points.
Tag rugby is a strict no contact game, there are no scrums or line outs and tackling is strictly forbidden.
To start the match (or to restart after a try), a female player kicks off from the halfway line. The ball must travel at least 10 metres. Grubber kicks along the ground can be used at any stage, provided the ball remains below the referee’s shoulder height before bouncing.
Matches usually last 45 minutes, 2 x 20 and five minutes half-time.
It's great fun in school, but since this is an all girls school we play with 7 girls on each team.
Tag Rugby is great fun and definitely one of my favourite activities that we do in P.E, I can't wait until next week when we get an official IRFU Tag Rugby player to show us how to play properly! :)
